Tuesday, December 1, 4:30pm: Virtual Chess Club Kids in Kindergarten through High School are invited to join this virtual chess class. Each week students will learn new strategies and then pair up using Chess.com to practice playing. Students must create a chess.com username prior to the start of class. Matthew has been playing chess since he was 3 years old and has been teaching chess for over 5 years. He currently teaches group and private lessons in Ridgefield, Wilton, West Hartford, Bridgeport, Easton, Weston, Norwalk, South Norwalk, Storrs, and countless other towns. He teaches new learners as well as experienced tournament players. Matthew has played in and placed in major USCF tournaments including the 24th Annual Bradley Open (2019) and the 48th Annual Continental Open (2018). His current USCF rating in 1726. He also is a USCF tournament director who has helped run events such as the 2020 Connecticut State Grade Championships with over 90 participants. Matthew Shirvell graduated with a degree in Mathematics and English from the University of Connecticut in 2020. Register Now! Wednesday, December 2, 10:30am: Zooming Toddler Story Time Join us for an interactive zoom story time geared especially for toddlers aged 1-3. Children and their caregivers will have fun listening to stories, singing songs, learning rhymes, and doing movement activities, all while building literacy skills. Thursday, December 3, 10:30am: Online Webinar Series - Walking with Dante Through Space and Time with Dr. Gerald Weiss Please join us for a 4-week online literature seminar during which Dr. Gerald Weiss will take us on a walk with Dante as he begins his journey in Hell, travels through Purgatory, and ascends to Paradise. Readings packet will be emailed in advance. No charge for the program. This seminar is made possible with the support of the Literary Series in Memory of Amy Quigley.
